IIS Books
Editor's Pick - Microsoft
Internet Information Server Resource Kit
Microsoft Corporation
This one is for serious IIS4
administrators/developers. The book handles almost all aspects of IIS issues like
scalability, hardware requirements, fine-tuning etc. The book also comes with a CD
containing a lot of useful components and filters (I like the Metabase editor utility the
best). The book highlights some real world examples such as Microsoft web site to
illustrate the infrastructure analysis.
Among a couple of things that other books won't tell you is the
topic on fine-tuning ASP for high-traffic sites.
Running Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0
Matthew Powell, Leon Braginski
A well written book, deserves some attention. The
book clearly explains the IIS concepts such as Index server, Transaction server, MTS, MSMQ
and ASP. For first time IIS users who want to know what IIS can offer. There are not many
books on IIS that can make you feel that you have learnt something. This book one of those
few which clearly explains all the concepts.
If you really want to know the plumbing behind IIS, I suggest you
read the reviews for the Microsoft IIS Resource Kit (elsewhere on this page)
Internet Information Server 4 Adminitrator's Guide
Allen L. Wyatt, Garrett Peasei
The book is similar to the "Running
MS IIS" book except that it is written is a lighter style with many pointers for
administrators.
