"Book of the Week" Archive
Only those books which have passed our standards of quality
become "Books of the Week." Actually, the books are not rotated every week, but
a book can remain the "Book of the Week" until a newer book that meets our
standard comes along. All the reviews are by Manohar Kamath unless mentioned otherwise.

Developing ASP Components
Shelley Powers
It has been a long time in
waiting, a book on creating ASP components is finally here! The book is a serious
discussion on ASP, components, and the "scenes" behind component design.
The book discusses ASP model, COM and most important, threading
models. It teaches you to create components in Visual Basic, Visual C++ and Java, thus
catering to almost all ASP/COM developers.
The book comes with great examples, is written in a simple style
(which we at the Corner like the most) and is suitable for ASP developers of all
experience levels. All these make this book the "Book of the Week"

Professional ADO RDS Programming with ASP
Matt Brown, Charles Caison, John Papa, Peter DeBetta, Eric Wilson
WOW! This book is probably
the second best book from Wrox press that I have read (the first one being their
"Professional ASP" book). The book contains 3 main areas of discussion - ADO,
RDS and ASP with Oracle databases.
Please Read a
detailed review on this book here..
Excellent coverage on ADO, good examples and easy
language all make this book the Book of The Week and I strongly recommend it.

Troubleshooting IIS 4.0 and Visual InterDev 6.0
Ken Spencer
The first one in the
series of books on debugging IIS/ASP applications is this book by Ken Spencer. Ken is a
noted author and trainer who writes regularly for magazines such as MIND and VBPJ.
In this book, Ken tackles various issues of
troubleshooting right from installing and setting up IIS. Then he moves on the more
complex topics as registering COM components, database access and performance tuning (my
favorite). The book follows a "Problem and Solution" formats that lets
developers easily identify with their own problems. Moreover, instead of delving on a lot
of theory, the book addresses just that problem with the theory behind it. The book is in
a pocket book format making it easy to carry.
All the things above make this book the Book of
The Week and I highly recommend it. Click
